I have been running the same roads on James Island for several years now.  A few Sunday’s ago, I ran the Cooper River Bridge and really enjoyed the change.  I’ve decided that I will pick a 1 mile route somewhere in Charleston each week and post a ranking of the running venue.  This week will be a “Catch me if you can” event.  I won’t post where I’ll be running my mile.

Last Sunday I  posted a Sunday Fun Run-Day Mile at Colonial Lake.  I will be running sometime between 8am and 9am… But Where?

Charleston Battery:

Sunday Fun Run-Day 1 Mile Location Ranking

Conditions: 10am / 68 °F / 65 %RH / 9mph wind / Mostly Cloudy

Parking:  10 – Plenty of Free Parking just steps away from path.  I chose to park a few blocks away at the nearby dog park.  Lots of parking there as well.

Path Layout:  9 – Straight path along the Battery with plenty of space to pass walkers.  Clear straight runs.  Many options to jump off of path and run streets as well.  Some cars, but traffic is very slow through this area.

Safety:  10 – Plenty of space, Low traffic, dogs on leash, and no 1 mile run muggers in site.

Beauty:  10 – Charleston is Beautiful and the Battery is most likely the most popular spot for visitors.  Free and vast.

Pedestrian Activity:  10 – There were groups of people but no issues getting around them.

Pedestrian Attitude:  10 – Local smiles and good mornings.  Tourist were also very nice.

50-100Fitness.com officially gives Colonial Lake Charleston SC a 6 category average ranking of 9.8!

Another contender…We believe strongly that The Battery will be a contender for Best 1 Mile Run Venue in Charleston 2024.

In MATH, the closest distance between two points is a straight line.  In RUNNING, who cares?  The Battery is quite a straight run to the point of of the Peninsula.  It is one mile from the Coast Guard Station to Rainbow Row.

Today was an awesome 2 miler.

Looking forward to the Next Charleston Sunday Mile!
