Building Your Personalized Daily Exercise Plan: Start from Your Minimum
Welcome to a journey of transformation where you build an exercise plan around YOUR current minimum ability. It might seem strange to focus on the minimum, but consider the powerful psychology behind it. Minimum suggests action, which is always better than zero. Most people need a “WHY” to stay motivated. I love Peter Attia’s example: live today as if you’re competing to be the best “kick-ass 100-year-old”.
There are countless reasons to aspire to finish strong:
- Don’t be a burden as we grow older.
- Don’t end with a “has-been” attitude.
- Be as strong and live as long as you can because YOU have a gift—the ability to choose.
From my personal experience, life is much more rewarding when you choose to help others, and you can’t do that without being healthy yourself. I’ll share my fun and simple plan here, and you can create YOUR base plan using the same guidelines.
Your Personalized Exercise Plan
- Motivational Focal Point
- Take your age (e.g., 50) and add ten to it (60). Use this as your daily motivational focal point.
- Start from YOUR minimum
- Begin with your actual minimum—whether it’s 1, 5, or 10. It doesn’t matter, but your goal is 10 plus your age.
- Daily Sit-ups
- Every day (no exceptions), do your decided minimum of sit-ups. My style includes a stretch in each sit-up.
- Daily Squats
- Every day (no exceptions), do your decided minimum of bodyweight squats. My style incorporates a full range of motion beyond parallel knees.
- Daily Push-ups
- Every day (no exceptions), do your decided minimum of push-ups. Vary styles as you improve.
- Daily Distance
- Every day (no exceptions), do your decided minimum distance. I have run at least a mile every calendar day for over four years, so believe me, you can do YOUR minimum.
The Beauty of the Minimum
Focusing on your minimum ability ensures that you are always taking action. This daily commitment will build discipline and gradually increase your fitness level. Remember, the goal is not to overwhelm yourself but to establish a sustainable routine.
Embrace this plan, and you’ll find that each small step adds up to significant progress over time. Stay motivated by your vision of becoming a strong, healthy, and independent individual, even at 100 years old. You have the power to choose your path, so choose to be active, choose to be strong, and choose to live a vibrant life.
